Spring

Watch out for:

  • Wheatears, Ring Ouzels, Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts returning from wintering grounds to breed

  • Dippers darting by the water's edge.

  • Ravens, peregrines and buzzards hunting over grassland

  • Breeding goosanders on the reservoir.

 

Summer

Watch out for:

  • Wheatears preparing to migrate

  • Red Squirrels

  • Peregrines and Buzzards hunting

  • Red Deer coming down from the fells

  • Finches and red squirrels absolutely love the hotel grounds and are often seen on the terraces and window ledges

Autumn

Watch out for:

  • Red Deer rutting season, incredible sights and sounds

  • Large flocks of Field Fares and Redwings arriving

  • Fledged Peregrines screeching over the fells

  • Finches and red squirrels absolutely love the hotel grounds and can be seen busily preparing for winter

 

Winter

Watch out for:

  • Dippers, Ravens, Peregrines, Buzzards and Goosanders

  • Tens of thousands of gulls roost overnight on the lake

  • Watch them flying in just before dusk, watch (and hear) them overnight if the moon is up
